Y3's morning with The World of Owls

12th Feb 2019

Today we had a visit from The World of Owls as we have been learning about birds. So far we have been learning about British garden birds, then geese and ducks and now we are moving on to birds of prey. Owls are birds of prey, do you know any others? We met Bowie, an adorable Barn Owl. Did you know that Barn Owls are nearly extinct in Ireland? Bowie wowed us with his silent flying around our hall. We then met Harley, a Eurasian eagle owl. He was much bigger than Bowie and his feathers showed us how well he would be camouflaged in a forest. Harley is very famous as he has been in lots of films and shows on TV. We found out when owls come out, depending on the colour of their eyes. We learned about how their talons have razor sharp edges and the types of things they like to eat. We also discovered they don't fly in the rain as their feathers are not waterproof.

Mike told us that if we ever find an injured animal that we  should..... LEAVE IT ALONE and get an adult to ring for help!
