P5 Safer Internet Day

We have been discussing ways to enjoy the internet, safely.  We pretended that we were giving advice about online gaming, to an alien who had landed on earth.  The children produced a publicity poster about their favourite game because the alien's planet did not use the internet for gaming.

Afterwards, everyone thought of good advice to give the alien about why it's good to use the internet for gaming. Here are some of the ideas:

  • It’s fun to play games on the internet.
  • It keeps you occupied and entertained.
  • It allows your parents to have peace for a while.
  • It teaches you skills.
  • You can meet people on-line.
  • It can be good value for money as there are lots of activities in one game.

The children then thought of advice for the alien in order for him to keep safe while gaming.

  • Watch out for scammers.
  • Be careful you don’t get hacked.
  • If you play for too long, you can get angry.
  • You need to balance the time you spend playing as you need time to learn and go outside.
  • Watch in-case there is bad language in a game.
  • Be careful you don't give your details to someone you don't know.
  • Only play with people you know.
  • Never use your real name, as your gaming name.

The children then wrote postcards to send to their alien so that he would remember all the things he'd learnt on earth, about online gaming.

Have a look at our work and remember, enjoy online gaming, but keep safe!
