Easter Workshops in Whitehouse Presbyterian Church

15th Mar 2016
Easter Workshops in Whitehouse Presbyterian Church

Both P5 classes had a really interesting trip to Whitehouse Presbyterian Church today.  We travelled, by bus, with P5 children from St.James P.S. and were greeted by the ladies who were taking the activities.  We were welcomed and then put into two groups.  Firstly we were taken round by Anne, who took us to see different displays about Easter.  The first was about Palm Sunday and how Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem and the people used palm branches to cheer at Him.  Here we got a cross to put into the bags we had been given when we arrived.  The next display showed the scene where Jesus washed the disciples feet, there was even a pair of sandals, towels and water to represent this part of the Easter story.  We then saw a table laid out with food and drink and Anne told us about the last supper Jesus had with his followers and how this can still be celebrated today by taking communion.  There was also an area which showed the garden where he prayed, the cross, the crown of thorns, the tomb and the empty grave.  The congregation must have worked very hard to display the story so imaginatively.  It really brought the Easter story alive for us all.

The second part of our visit began with juice and biscuits and then the children got to do craft activities.  They made a moving chicken/egg and decorated an Easter basket.

We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and really appreciate all the ladies who gave us a real treat and helped us think about Easter.
